July 7th to July 10th 2011

The Kilmore Quay Seafood Festival is about seafood, yes. It’s also about a maritime community working together for the benefit of all. And did we mention fun? That too.

Seafood Festival 2011

This year is the 26h year for the festival and over the last quarter of a century the festival has paid for or contributed to:

  • The Stella Maris Community Centre
  • The Village Playground
  • Village seating
  • Seaside walkway
  • Memorial Gardens, and
  • Many other community groups & charities – the local “Tops of the Town” group for example.

It’s remarkable that they, (the Festival folk), always make money, but it’s also remarkable that they keep coming up with new events. Last year they had a “Strongest Man” contest and it’s back again this year, (shudder!). This means that you can expect to see a lot of Arnie lookalikes next Sunday.

There are still the perennial favourites such as the Harbour Fair, the Teddy Bears Picnic and an “Afternoon on the Beach”. (For the latter event, don’t bring a book, and you will be expected to join in with the welly throwing. You have been warned.)

Foodies will love the Friday Fish Market, the barbeque on the beach and the daily seafood platters. Healthy types can try the “Fun Boot Camp”, (hmmn, we don’t believe that a boot camp should be fun.. .) or the 5km road race. There are lots of events just for children too, and art exhibitions for the more cultured amongst you.

The festival brochure has all the events and for more news you can visit Kilmore Quay Seafood Festival.

We are now fully booked out for the month of July – so remember to book early for next year’s festival!
