Tacumshane Windmill, built in 1846, is the only surviving complete windmill in the Republic of Ireland. It’s beside a pub and restaurant, only 15 minutes drive away, and well worth a visit when you are enjoying your vacation in Kilmore Cottage, our holiday letting with a difference. Virtually all of the timber used in building this mill was from driftwood or timber from shipwrecks. A rare feature of this windmill is its revolving straw thatched cap roof to catch the wind for its sails. The building is now in the care of the Board of Works and a key to access the building is available from the adjacent Meyler’s pub and restaurant.
