Soooo what’s there to do this bank holiday weekend at Kilmore Cottage? There’s a HUGE number of things to do because Wexford Festival Opera, (happening now), has spawned a whole lot of other festivals & events so there is fun and activities in Wexford for all ages and tastes.

Festivals and Events

Wexford Festival Opera

If rarely seen Operas performed with international stars in our beautiful National Opera House is not you thing, there are also short works and recitals everyday until November 5, 2017

Wexford Fringe Festival

This festival has guided tours of intriguing places, comedy, music, antiques, singing pubs, children’s event(wildlife, story-telling, owls workshops and more), theatre and lectures. There’s even a model railway exhibition!

Wexford Spiegeltent Festival

This is a unique festival of music, comedy and theatre in the Paradiso Spielgeltent on Wexford Quay from 13th – 29th October 2017. I like the sound of Freak Fantastuique, which happens tonight.
My hairdresser is featured in it, doing a set on aerial hoop which sounds like fun 🙂

Cinema

There are two cinemas in Wexford:

  • Omniplex is nearest to Kilmore Cottage and has 8 screens.
  • The Arc Cinema is in Wexford town itself and has 3 screens. It opened in August 2017 so is sparklingly new and has great seats!

Food

When you stay with us, you are lucky enough to be just a few hundred meters from the award-winning Mary Barry’s Pub & Restaurant. If you fancy some take-away frest fish & chips, there is the Saltee Chipper in nearby Kilmore Quay. For a nice evening meal of lunch, try The Silver Fox in Kilmore Quay.

If you are in Wexford town, there are lots of delicious options, but you could try The YardCistin Eile or Greenacres for a nice fresh local meal. Greanacres has a wonderful art gallery upstairs and also features a fantastic wine shop and deli, so well worth a visit.

For breakfast or brunch try The Centre Café at the Stela Maris centre in Kilmore Maris centre in Kilmore Quay or Karoo in nearby Killinick.

Swimming

Kelly’s Resort Hotel in nearby Rosslare strand opens their lovely aqua centre to non-residents. It’s right by the sea and has 2 lovely restaurants – ask them for a lunch and swim package so you can happily spend a morning or afternoon there and get really good value.

Bowling

LeisureMax is about 15 minutes’ drive away, (close to the Omniplex cinema), and has bowling, an outdoor adventure tower, indoor playground, indoor soccer pitch, a restaurant and more. Perfect for a family day out, regardless of the weather!

Ballycross Apple Farm

Ballycross Apple Farm is less than 10 minutes away from us by car, and is a great afternoon out. A working apple farm, they have animals, walks, a shop, a restaurant and more – it’s very popular with both locals and visitors.

Our Farm Tour

All guests can have a free guided tour of our organic working farm. Just ask John and he will arrange it with you –  you can call the cows, feed the donkeys and collect eggs.
