Saltee Islands

The Saltee Islands are two privately owned islands about 5km off the coast of Kilmore Quay, Co Wexford. It is possible to visit the Great Saltee Island, although it’s a “wet landing” because there is no landing jetty and it is a trip for the moderately fit!

The Great Saltee is a haven for birds, very scenic, and a special trip for bird watchers and photographers from around the world. Puffins nest there in May, so that’s a good month to visit. There are a number of engraved monuments on the Island which tell something of the Story of Prince Michael, the owner, and when you’re there, you should see if you can find the throne! This is a great day trip to include in your self catering holiday at Kilmore Cottage.
