Lakes

There are two lakes close to Kilmore Cottage – Tacumshane Lake and Our Lady’s Island Lake.

Tacumshane Lake is designated a Special Protection Area by the National Parks and Wildlife Service, because of the sanctuary it provides for many species of bird. (The lake can also be spelled “Tacumshin”)

Our Lady’s Island Lake is technically one of only two lagoons in Ireland and is an important breeding grounf for the rare Roseate Tern. Our Lady’s Island is also famous for being a pilgrimage site.
